If you are interested in applying for the program, here is a list of things to do and what to expect:

  1. Come by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership to pick up an NSE Directory which explains the program and lists participating institutions as well as pertinent information for each campus. You will also pick up an NSE UA Application and the Advising Agreement and Worksheet to list your school choices, course selections, and obtain your advisor approval.
  2. Select more than one school in which are interested. The Sylvester Jones Resource Center located on the third floor of the Ferguson Center has college information, or you can go online and click on the Student tab at http://nse.org.
  3. Once you have selected your school and have chosen courses to take, check with your UA Advisor to verify those courses will transfer back to UA.
  4. Ask three individuals to write references for you. It is recommended you obtain an academic advisor reference, at least one faculty/staff reference, and one other reference person. Give each of your references a reference form to complete. Have them return the reference form to:
    • Dr. Stacy Jones
    • The University of Alabama
    • Office of Dean of Students
    • 2500 Ferguson Center
    • 751 Campus Drive, Box 870298
    • Tuscaloosa, AL 35487
  5. Make an appointment with Dr. Stacy Jones to turn in your NSE application. At this time you will also turn in your Advising Agreement and Advising Worksheet. You will also pay your non-refundable $250 application fee. Make the check payable to The University of Alabama. Be mindful of deadline dates because after the deadline your choice of available schools with openings significantly decreases.
  6. In mid-March all placements will be made and you will be notified which school accepted you.
